Lately I've had several phone calls regarding bringing aerial imagery and surfaces into Civil 3D. The big desire is Google Earth imagery and surfaces. Prior to Civil 3D 2013 many users had come to love the fact that they can import Google Earth imagery and surfaces directly within Civil 3D. In the 2013 release of the software that function had been removed. Since then there have been workaround processes that others have figured out, but they require a third party software to process the data.
Using the Bing imagery that can now easily be embedded in Civil 3D and Infraworks here is a great solution provided to us by Jeff Bartels, and Autodesk Technical Specialist and avid blogger on the Civil Immersion Blog, using only Autodesk products:
