That’s right! The new versions of Autodesk software are out and about and ready for you to use. I love it, the smell of new bits downloading over the network, installing with anticipation, and running it for the first time! Oh, it’s great!
If you’re running InfraWorks, there are a couple things you need to be aware of this year. First, if you install InfraWorks 2019, there are drastic changes to the underlying data of the models. This means your existing models will need to be upgraded. All your design roads will be converted to component roads and some of the geometry might change slightly (no more “fake” curves at an angle point for example). With the drastic changes to the model, the Autodesk team has found a couple issues with upgrading the models late in the development process and have released a hotfix. Make sure you install the hotfix prior to upgrading your model (and, as with any upgrade process of any software, make sure you have a backup).
I know there will be some people out there that won’t (or aren’t allowed to) upgrade to the latest version. Don’t worry, you aren’t being left out of things to be concerned with. To meet certain security protocols, some online services for InfraWorks 2018.2 and earlier will be disabled. These include (but aren’t necessarily limited to) watershed analysis, profile optimization, corridor optimization, girder line analysis, etc. If your workflow requires any of these, you’ll need to upgrade your InfraWorks.
If you have any questions on any of this, feel free to reach out to your Applied Software contact and we’ll help as we can!
