360 Sync Migration Tool

Introducing the 360 Sync Migration Tool! We recently upgraded our 360 Sync tool to include out-of-the-box syncing between BIM 360 & Vault, SharePoint, and Windows (Click here to learn more about what's new with 360 Sync). When adding the new functionality, we also had to upgrade the framework of the software & slightly change how it works. So we created the 360 Sync Migration Tool for all of our users out there who are using 360 Sync v1, but want the added functionality of 360 Sync v2!

So what does it do?

Quite simply, the 360 Sync Migration Tool will automate the process of moving your old Project Integrations from v1 to v2 so that you can continue syncing old projects without having to recreate the configurations in 360 Sync. It's a really simple process & we will walk through it below.

How do I use the Migration Tool?

Step One - Install the Migration Tool: Download the Migration Tool Here. Once it's downloaded, right-click on the file & hit Properties. When the Properties window comes up, click the "Unblock" checkbox in the bottom left (if it's not there, great! You're good to go). Next, extract the ZIP file &  Run the file named, "360SyncForWindowsMigrationTool."

Step Two - Configure the Migration Tool: Once you've opened the Migration Tool, you should see a box similar to the one above. Fill in the information. On the "Type" dropdown menu, select the only thing available - Version 1.3 to 2.1.

For the Configurations folder, navigate to your C: Drive & find the 360 Sync folder. By default, the 360 Sync app installs in the location shown in the image above. Next, click on the "Configurations" folder. Once you've selected that folder, copy the destination in the bar (highlited in blue above), and paste that into the "Configurations folder" cell in the Migration Tool. Keep this window open because we will use it one more time later on.

Next, you need to configure your "Files Folder." Open a new window & navigate to your server, Box/Dropbox/Egnyte/Google Docs/ShareFile/Desktop, or wherever you store your BIM 360 Files. In the example above, I navigated to my desktop, but most likely you are utilizing a server or another document management service. Just as before, copy the destination in the bar (highlited in blue above), and paste that into the "Files folder" cell in the Migration Tool.

Note that if you need to navigate to your Box/Dropbox/Egnyte/etc. folder or your desktop, you'll need to first navigate through to
C:\Users\<your username>\Desktop\ in order to be able to select those folders.

Once you've selected your Configurations folder & your Files folder, you're ready to go. Hit Start.

Step 3 - Transferring your Configurations to 360 Sync v2: Once you hit start, the 360 Sync Migration Tool will let you know when it's done. It should take less than 30 seconds. All it's doing is taking the v1 .ini files & changing them to .xml files which 360 Sync v2, Forge, SharePoint & Vault can use.

Find your "Configurations" window that you still have open from above (let's call this Folder 1 for easy reference), and then open up a new window. Navigate to your "360 Sync with Windows" Folder & click on the "Configurations" folder (we'll call this Folder 2).

Select all of the XML files from Folder 1 (as shown above) and select "Copy." Choose Folder 2 & paste these configurations, and you're done! Now all of your original 360 Sync configurations are now included in the new version of 360 Sync!
