Text Issues when upgrading a Revit project from 2016 to 2017

Howdy Folks,

Lately there seems to a lot of concern (and rightfully so) with upgrading projects from Revit 2016 to Revit 2017.

First, let me begin by stating that it is NOT recommended to upgrade your project from one version to another. IF you started the project in Revit 2016, complete the project in the same version.  If you have to upgrade a project to a newer version here are a few hints and suggestions. ( REMEMBER CREATE A BACKUP OF YOUR PROJECT, just in case the upgrade doesn't work)

1. MAKE SURE you have installed the latest patches, updates, or service packs to Revit 2017. You will need to run Autodesk's shiny new application called " Autodesk Application Manager".  Below is a link to read all about it.


1. If you need to upgrade a Revit project more than 1 release, ie, Revit 2015 to Revit 2017, first upgrade the project one version at a time. In this example it would be release Revit 2016 (make sure to have audit checked on), then save that project and close it. Open it in Revit 2016 and then close it, just to make sure it opens correctly. Then open Revit 2017 and open your project that was upgraded to the 2016 version (remember to place a check once again in the audit to allow the program to "audit" it as it is being upgraded) then save and close. Open in Revit 2017 and make sure it all looks good, close and re-open. That's it.

2. IF you upgraded your project from a previous version, whether its from 2016 or 2015, and you're having issues with your text. please try the following:

a. If you're having issues with text and/or tags, try selecting the tag or annotation and then swap it for a different "type" within the properties window, click apply. Then, while its still selected, swap it back to the original text or tag type in the properties window. IF this works, then try selecting another problem text or tag and right-click and "select all in project" and do the same exercise.

b. If the above doesn't work try changing some display settings in windows.  Below is an article that shows how this is achieved.
